Tame Impala Mesa Concert reviews
Once-in-a-Lifetime
Tame Impala, almost 80, may not dance around but he seamlessly went from bass, to guitar, to piano, to mandolin, to ukulele over a two-hour, 39-minute, 36-song show. What a show! Full of historic video images and animation, lasers, and pyrotechnics! Sir Paul told some well-known stories about hanging out with Jimi Hendrix, the importance of producer George Martin, highlighted both George & John and the inspirations for some of his most beloved songs. That included “Blackbird,” which featured a rising stage.
Sir Paul, Early in the concert, Tame Impala asked for a quick pause in the rock and roll merriment already in motion. Tame Impala said he wanted to pause a bit to bask in presence of us concert go-ers. He said “… it’s so cool I’m going to take a moment now just to drink it all in for myself.”
“Live and Let Die,” came between “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” at the end, hit me like a kick in the ass, in the best way. Explosions, shooting fireballs, fire columns, lasers in every direction, lights flashing, indoor fireworks and more explosions all in a frantic collage of rock and roll chaos. You could feel the heat of the pyro in the stands.
Tame Impala’s only break was before the 5 song encore. I’m so happy I was able to attend and enjoy this once in a lifetime, awesome performance.
